Accessibility Statement

QuizApp is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for people with disabilities. We are continually improving the user experience for everyone and applying the relevant accessibility standards to guarantee an inclusive learning environment for all our users.

Our Commitment

Education should be accessible to everyone, regardless of ability. At QuizApp, we view accessibility not just as a legal requirement, but as a core component of our mission. We strive to design, develop, and maintain our platform in a way that is usable by the widest possible audience, including those utilizing assistive technologies like screen readers, voice recognition software, and alternative input devices.

Conformance Status

The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) defines requirements for designers and developers to improve accessibility for people with disabilities. It defines three levels of conformance: Level A, Level AA, and Level AAA. QuizApp is partially conformant with WCAG 2.1 level AA. Partially conformant means that some parts of the content do not fully conform to the accessibility standard.

We are actively working to achieve full conformance and regularly audit our application against these guidelines.

Accessibility Features on QuizApp

We have integrated several features into QuizApp to assist users with various needs:

  • Keyboard Navigation: The core functionalities of the platform, including navigating between pages, answering quiz questions, and submitting forms, can be accomplished using only a keyboard. Focus indicators are styled to clearly show which element is currently active.
  • Screen Reader Compatibility: We use semantic HTML5 elements and ARIA (Accessible Rich Internet Applications) landmarks to ensure that the structure and content of our pages are properly conveyed to screen reader software.
  • Color Contrast: We have carefully selected our color palettes for both light and dark modes to meet or exceed WCAG AA contrast ratio requirements, ensuring text is readable against its background.
  • Scalable Text: The platform is designed to respond properly when users scale text up to 200% via their browser settings, without losing content or functionality.
  • Alternative Text for Images: Non-decorative images and diagrams, especially those used within study guides and quiz questions, are provided with descriptive `alt` text to convey their meaning.
  • Clear Form Labels: All input fields, search bars, and interactive controls have associated visible labels or aria-labels to communicate their purpose clearly.

Known Limitations and Ongoing Efforts

Despite our best efforts to ensure accessibility of QuizApp, there may be some limitations. Below is a description of known limitations, and potential solutions. Please contact us if you observe an issue not listed below.

  • User-Generated Content: Content posted in the Community Q&A section is generated by users. While we provide guidelines, we cannot guarantee that all user-uploaded images have adequate alt text or that user formatting follows accessibility best practices. We are working on tools to prompt users to add alt text when uploading images.
  • Complex Mathematical Formula Rendering: Some highly complex mathematical formulas in advanced subjects may currently pose challenges for certain screen readers. We are actively exploring better math rendering libraries (like MathJax integration) that offer native accessibility support.
  • Third-Party Advertisements: For users on the free tier, third-party advertisements may occasionally disrupt the tab flow or contain elements with insufficient contrast. We work with our ad providers to enforce accessibility standards, but cannot completely control dynamic ad content. Upgrading to Premium removes these ads entirely.

Assessment Approach

QuizApp assesses the accessibility of its platform through the following approaches:

  • Self-Evaluation: Our engineering and design teams conduct regular internal reviews using automated tools (such as Lighthouse and axe DevTools) and manual testing (including keyboard-only navigation).
  • Continuous Integration: We have integrated automated accessibility checks into our development pipeline to catch potential issues before they are deployed to production.

Compatibility with Browsers and Assistive Technology

QuizApp is designed to be compatible with the following assistive technologies:

  • Standard screen readers like NVDA, JAWS, and VoiceOver.
  • Screen magnifiers and other visual aids.
  • Speech recognition software.

QuizApp is compatible with recent versions of major web browsers, including Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Apple Safari, and Microsoft Edge. For the best experience, we recommend keeping your browser updated to the latest version.

Technical Specifications

Accessibility of QuizApp relies on the following technologies to work with the particular combination of web browser and any assistive technologies or plugins installed on your computer:

  • HTML
  • WAI-ARIA
  • CSS
  • JavaScript

These technologies are relied upon for conformance with the accessibility standards used.

Alternative Formats

If you need content from QuizApp in an alternative format, such as large print, braille, or an audio recording, please contact us using the information below. We will do our best to provide the requested format within a reasonable timeframe.
